There was two goals for this project. Make a reliable controller, and make it really badass.
Security and safety is taken very seriously on launch day. I am the only person who is able to launch the rocket. The controller needs a key to turn it on, a security code to setup the launch settings and a final security code to initiate the countdown sequence. This is done through a keypad and LCD display. Of course there is also a large E-stop button, to stop the countdown any time until T-3 seconds when the launch pad takes control.


The controller has an array of switches for every possible task. Switches to adjust major settings are under 'missile covers'. Buttons to make small adjustments are just regulator small pushbuttons. While switches that don't affect safety are large rotary switches. Mount all this on a carbon fibre wrapped panel, and the result is a badass looking controller.
To stick with the badass theme and allow easy and secure transport, the whole controller system is mounted inside of a transport case. When not stored in a safe place, this case is locked with a padlock to further increase security. The case is also waterproof, which saved the day on the second launch attempt when it started raining.


The controller and launch pad use an NRF24 long range transceiver to communicate wirelessly. This system has proven to be unreliable on launch days, as such it will be upgraded to a wired connection in the future.
